Pat O'Dwyer knows he doesn't have an easy role ahead as he becomes the 2010 president of the West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association's DBL Nanaimo Timbermen.
The year poses some very unique challenges for the Timbermen. Finding floor space for the team to practice and play will be a daunting task as Frank Crane Arena closes for renovations. And without any gaming commission revenue this year, creative measures will have to be taken to find more financial support.
"So in other words, if we needed the Nanaimo lacrosse community and the Nanaimo business community to get behind this team, this is the year," said O'Dwyer. "We are very fortunate because most of our players are local, most of our coaches are local and most of our management is local, so we have a huge support system already in place."
This week the names of the general manager and coaching staff will be released and O'Dwyer hopes to continue to build on the Timbermen's past success.
"By the looks of things we will not only be competing for division and league titles but representing our province in the nationals."
