DBL Timbermen add to staff
Nanaimo News Bulletin • Mar-20-2008

The Nanaimo DBL Timbermen added a scorer to their team - in a way.

The senior B lacrosse club's all-time leading scorer, Kevin Shires, has agreed to be an assistant coach in 2008.

"I'm very excited to have Kevin on board," said Pat O'Dwyer, the team's coach and general manager.  "He's a very competitive person.  Winning is a priority with him, which is a good thing."

Shires scored 537 points in Timbermen colours over the course of his 106-game career, so his offensive knowledge can only benefit a club whose attack struggled down the stretch in 2007.

O'Dwyer said Shire's success as a player came through had work.

"We had though practices, but still you'd see Kevin [afterwards] with a bucket of balls, throwing 200 shots at the net," O'Dwyer said.  "He was tenacious that way…so maybe some of that can rub off on the guys."

The season starts May 1.
