Timbermen aren't ruling anyone out
Nanaimo News Bulletin • Apr-5-2008

It’s possible a tryout player could make the team, play for an historic franchise, maybe even energize a packed arena with a big goal.

The Nanaimo DBL Timbermen senior B lacrosse team is holding open tryouts starting Tuesday (April 8). General manager Pat O’Dwyer said he is still looking for a few players to fill specific roster slots.

So far, the Timbermen have 14 guys on the roster who have signed letters of intent, with most or all of that group likely to be in the opening-night lineup. That said, he would like to see 30-40 more senior-aged players at tryouts.

The general manager expects to be able to put a talented club on the floor, but recognizes that other intangibles are important, too.

“There is no room for bad attitudes this year,” O’Dwyer said. “We are looking like a championship team; we have to start acting like one.”

Tuesday’s tryouts go from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Nanaimo Ice Centre, though athletes should be ready to go at 7 p.m. for stretching.
