DBL Timbermen aim to intimidate in opener
Nanaimo News Bulletin • May 3, 2008
Tonight (May 3) is a special night for the DBL Timbermen.
Nanaimo's senior B lacrosse team will hold its home opener as the Valley Rebels roll into Nanaimo for a West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association matchup.
Pat O'Dwyer, coach of the Timbermen, said his team has "way more skill," but thinks the Rebels have a lot of veteran maturity in their lineup.
"When you're playing a squad like that, they can beat you just on experience," he said.
Nanaimo's defence will have to key in on Valley's Jim Nishiyama, who tied with Nanaimo player Joel Cocarell for the league scoring title in 2007.
Man for man, though, Nanaimo looks to have the advantage.
"I think for the most part, we math up very well against Valley and we shouldn't have too much problem with them," O'Dwyer said.
"I think our home crowd and the excitement being in our barn is going to intimidate the opponent and it's going to work for us."
Nanaimo is anticipating a good crowd and while many seats have been snapped up already, tickets will still be available at the door tonight for $5-$11.
Game time is 7:30pm.
