Senior B Timbermen unveil new meaner, grittier logo
Nanaimo Daily News • Jan-05-2008
The lumberjack logo used by Nanaimo senior lacrosse teams for more than half of a century has been officially retired.
The Nanaimo Senior B Timbermen unveiled a new logo with a new lumberjack for a new millennium on Friday
Timbermen coach and general manager Pat O'Dwyer, who also recently replaced Clive Stocks as team president, says a new look was overdue for the team.
"It keeps the traditional look of the Timbermen but has a whole new toughness about it," O'Dwyer said of the logo designed by Ron Dash of Fresh Farm Design.
"(The lumberjack) looks a lot more tenacious. It's gritty and that's what the team will be all about this season."
O'Dwyer, who also announced that DBL Disposal is back as the team's major sponsor for 2008, is predicting big things for the Senior B T-Men in 2008 and in the years to come.
"We are taking it to a new level. We want to fill the (Nanaimo Ice Centre) this year. It will be an exciting year for the fans, players and sponsors," he said. "We are not fooling around this year.
"Our ultimate goal is to win the Presidents Cup and not just one but two or three over the next 10 years."
The T-Men haven't won the Presidents Cup, the Canadian junior B lacrosse championship, since 1969.
A new team website will be launched this weekend.
