Walters expected to be best goalie in Sr. B lacrosse
Nanaimo Daily News • Apr-19-2008

The Nanaimo DBL Senior B Timbermen have named Danny Walters as their No. 1 goalie for the upcoming West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association season.

Walters, who has spent time with the WLA Timbermen, is entering his fourth season with the Senior B Timbermen.

"Walters is at the top of his game," said T-Men general manager Pat O'Dwyer.

"He is proving to be the top goalie in camp and this could be the year that Danny shows everyone that he is the top goalie in the league. Walters, when focused, is the top goalie in any league, (Senior) A or B. He proves to me night after night how good he really is.

"We are excited to be naming Danny No. 1 and are confident in his ability to backstop this team."

Ontario import Matt Soulliere will serve as Walters' backup with Tony Wyse serving as his understudy.

O'Dwyer feels having three goaltender will add depth to the lineup and avoid past problems caused by injuries.

Last season, the Senior B Timbermen dressed 40-year-old Nanaimo Masters goalie Kevin "Booper" Maughan as an emergency back-up to starter Walters in a 6-6 draw with the Ladner Pioneers.

However, the signing was done improperly and Ladner was awarded a win following a protest and the T-Men were stripped of a valuable point in the standings.

The T-Men open the WCSLA season on May 1 in Ladner.

Nanaimo will host the Valley Rebels in their home opener on May 3 at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
